PF Compliance · Oct 2026
A practical guide to EPF registration for businesses in Satara, Karad and MIDC areas – who must register, documents required, contribution rates, monthly ECR filing and penalties for delay.
If your business in Satara, Satara MIDC, Karad or Phaltan is growing, Provident Fund (EPF) registration is one of the first statutory compliances you must complete. This guide explains the process in simple language.
Who needs PF registration?
Under the Employees' Provident Funds Act, 1952, an establishment generally has to register with EPFO once it employs 20 or more persons. Smaller establishments can also register voluntarily, which helps attract and retain good employees.
Documents usually required
- PAN of the establishment and of the owner / partners / directors
- Certificate of incorporation, partnership deed or Shop Act licence
- Address proof of the establishment
- Cancelled cheque or bank statement
- Digital signature (DSC) of the authorised signatory
- Basic employee details – name, date of joining, Aadhaar and bank account
Contribution rates
Both employer and employee contribute 12% of basic wages plus dearness allowance. From the employer's 12%, 8.33% (on wages up to ₹15,000) goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme and the balance to the PF account.
Monthly compliance after registration
- Generate UAN for every new employee and complete KYC
- Prepare and upload the Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR)
- Pay the PF challan by the 15th of the following month
- Update exits and maintain statutory records for inspection
What happens if you delay?
Late payment attracts interest and damages, and EPFO can issue notices or conduct inspections. Many small businesses in Satara face these issues only because of missed due dates or wrong wage calculations.
